I have always been fascinated by old, abandoned buildings and over the years I looked at many of them without ever taking photos. When I finally started photographing them in 2011, I didn’t know why – I think at first the photos were mainly to make sense of my trips to the buildings: “Why do you visit these broken, ugly places?” – “To photograph them”. I just loved letting the places affect me, listening to them and capturing their mood. I wanted to listen to the stories the buildings themselves were telling me…. to understand them… and enter into a different, forgotten world. Taking photographs made it possible for me to dive even deeper, to see even more… and although I rarely had the time and opportunity to discover and explore new interesting ‘lost places’ in the last years, I still enjoy (and sometimes miss) it.
